How to Maintain A Swimming Pool - Clean and Test Pool Water

If you own a pool you want to get the most out of it all season long. With just a little maintenance you can keep it at its very best all summer long. Pool maintenance can be broken down into 5 separate steps: Balance, Chlorine, Shock, Algaecide and Skim, Brush and Sweep. To maintain your pool you will need water test strips, chlorine, water shock, algaecide, a skimmer net, poo brush, and vacuum. Additional items such as water clarifier and a chlorine floater also help.

Starting out, you will want to test your water with water test strips so that your pool remains at the proper chemistry. Chlorine levels are also very important in the pool. Maintaining a 1-4 parts per million will help your pool fight off bacteria and germs. Use a chlorine floater to help maintain proper levels. If chlorine is too low, shock treatments, which are 5-10 PPM, will add a high concentration of chlorine. Be sure to check the levels of your pool before entering.

Although the chlorine will help control alga and bacteria, an algaecide may still be needed. Use an algaecide when you begin to feel a thin, slimy build up in the pool. Remember to always skim, brush and sweep the pool as well. Floating leaves, twigs and other dirt are easy to clean up.

With just a few products and tips, your pool will be healthy and clear all summer for use after use. To learn how to close your pool, visit http://www.Lowes.com/Videos.
